In the second half of 2014, the campaign Healthier through Literacy (in Dutch: Taal maakt Gezonder) was launched.
Approximately 6,000 primary healthcare workers (general practitioners, psychologists, physicians, etc.) received a package. This package contained a poster to hang in the office (waiting room), booklets, a notebook (with literacy-related info) and an information leaflet for the healthcare professional. The purpose of the campaign was to make healthcare professionals aware of their pivotal role in recognising people with literacy problems and refer them to a reading and writing course. In addition, the materials in their office make patients aware of this issue and the possibility to join a literacy course.
